  • I finally got to pick up my 818C kit from Factory Five! 😊
    • Took a 2000 mile road trip from Michigan to Factory Five to Georgia.
    • Got an awesome tour of the FFR facility and the staff there were great to talk to and helped load the trailer.
    • The trip went smooth, just trucking along the mountains all the way down the East coast.
  • Georgia’s the final destination- I’ll be working on the build here from now on.
  • Progress on the kit will be slow the next couple days as I move in, clean up the shop, and go through the parts inventory but I plan to put in a ton of work the next couple weeks.

  • Our fuel stop in NY.


  • On the way to MA.


  • The truck had about 1/3 of a Subaru as payload.


  • The showroom was awesome! Great to see all the cars up close in person.


  • Took pictures of the details of the 818C on display for my own reference.

  • They copied my engine paint scheme! 


  • A cool detail I was unaware of before is the vents FFR cutout behind the quarter window. Makes for easy engine-bay ventilation.


  • It’s not real until you see the one with your name on it. It’s like Christmas!


  • Loading it up- the FFR guys were super helpful.

  • Ready for the ~1100 mile trip home!


  • Everything fit well on the 20′ trailer.


  • Our stop in Southern NY for lunch.


  • Getting closer to home- VA before our stop for the night.


  • Last fuel stop before GA!


  • Had to pause for a brief photo in South TN.


  • Everything’s in the workshop 🙂 


  • The hardtop takes up a lot of space. Planning on hanging it from the ceiling.


  • Some friends helped me get everything off the truck and trailer. The frame was the heaviest item.


  • One of the first ’35 Hot Rod Trucks.

  • I did a few items on the engine:
    • Installed oil pump and water pump.
    • Installed TGVs and Intake
    • Repaired stripped valve cover bolt thread. Had to get creative with this one but was able to make it work.
    • As things go…my EJ257 gasket kit didn’t have the right valve cover gasket for the EJ205 heads so I had to just bolt them down for now without a gasket to seal them for the trip south. I’ll have to take them off and install them for real once I get the right gaskets.
      • Why does Subaru make it so just enough things are different for it to be annoying?
  • Packed all my donor items so I can load them up next weekend when I pickup the kit and relocate to GA.
    • It’s amazing how much stuff I still have after selling what seemed like an entire car’s worth of parts.
  • Side Note: My school club got our LM7 5.3L V8 running in a BMW E28. The car’s being built for the GRM $2018 Challenge.

  • The new color scheme!


  • Yes, those are flames 😀


  • Just missing the timing system.


  • The valve covers look nice, but unfortunately not fully installed yet.


  • Lots of stuff.


  • Everything’s boxed and ready for a 2000 mile road trip.

  • Relocating all the donor stuff to GA (with the kit to follow)
    • Brought a truck and trailer to MI so that I can carry all my donor stuff down South and go pickup the kit while I’m at it. Should be a fun road trip!
    • Rebuilt trailer hubs to make the trip, quite a messy job. The trailer is very infrequently used and hasn’t had any maintenance done to in years besides new tires about a year ago.
    • Towed up a Suzuki Samurai for my brother so the trailer got some use on its drive up North.
  • Engine should be ready to go back together soon
    • Bought a new-to-me engine block because my donor one had too many issues. The new one is an STi block with about 105k miles on it.
    • Machined my crankshaft and bought new rod bearings 
  • Kit pickup on May 14!

  • Trailer hubs rebuilt and greased


  • Truck and trailer are good to go


  • Can you tell this Samurai came from rural Georgia?


  • Ready for the road trip
